Four years after the assassination of Nicolae Ceausescu in 1983, the new dictator, Nikita Lupei, seized power of Romania establishing a robust communist state. Three American double-agents are assigned on a dangerous reconnaissance mission to communist Romania: their primary mission is to take as many photographs of secret military bases, however, things go way off-hand when one of the agents encounters a centre-wing rebel group known as the "LPP" or "Libertate Pentru Popor" which means "Liberty for the People". Their goal is to eliminate the dictator, Nikita Lupei and destroy his regime by expanding an army with the help of the three agents and cause as much destruction to all military and militia outposts and strongholds and establish a new democratic political system. However, things shift towards the wrong direction slowly leading the Balkan states into the hands of the Soviets making the Cold War even more tense between the two superpowers.

The project as of yet is still dubbed "Project-1987". However, the title that will fit the game will be unofficially called "Freedom Squad".

Setting

The main setting for "Project 1987" is Romania or the Socialist Republic of Romania. "Project 1987" covers the whole map of Romania. Within the map, there are a hundred of Lenin Statues that the player can destroy, collect scrap for unlockables, vehicles, and so on. The biggest city is Bucharest which is the capital of Romania. In the game, you can travel anywhere within the country. There are numerous underground bases and tunnels. Also, mountain ranges, large acres of forests, and numerous villages that the player can explore.
